Tree Protection

The Garden Club of Mount Tabor is taking part in the Rutgers program: Grow Your Own Forest. As part of this program, we are collecting data and protecting our young trees, especially from deer and other sources of damage when the trees are young and susceptible.

We were able to install deer barrier protection for 6 neighborhood trees and hope to add many more over time.

Below are images of our six, caged trees:

Acer saccharum1 (sapling)

Acer saccharum2 (sapling)

Quercus palustris1 (sapling)

Liriodendron tulipifera1 (sapling)

Carya ovata1 (seedling)

Quercus rubra1 (sapling)

Here is the information we used to both install the barrier cages as well as our instructions for collected data. If you are interested in this work, please join us as we continue to monitor these trees and protect others.
