A Restoration Model: Field Trip to Foote’s Pond Wood
On a beautiful Friday night, June 28, 2024, Susan and John Landau of the Friends of Foote’s Pond Wood generously hosted a sunset walk and guided tour through their woodland and wetland restoration project.
Not only did we enjoy the beautiful site, but we learned so much about what it takes to transform an ecologically damaged site into one that is alive with native species of plants and animals as well as being a thriving site for the community to both learn from and enjoy.
We saw the difficulties and long road ahead, as well as the tremendous successes and hope, which consists not only in the restoration of the land itself, but in the support from the town of Morristown, local citizens, local schools, local religious organizations, and many, many volunteers.
This field trip was a crucial step in our journey to better manage the community land in Tabor. We were surely inspired, but we also tapped into a tremendous amount of practical wisdom from those who’ve gone before us in this type of work.
The Landau’s will be joining us in our assessment walk through our pond and trail area on July 8th (NOTE: time TBA, please contact us for the most update information). Please join us! All are welcome.
